What We Offer

At S.T.A.N.D. Up Minnesota Parents United, we believe families deserve more than a seat at the table, they deserve the knowledge, support, and power to help shape the decisions affecting their children.

Our work combines one-on-one family advocacy, parent education, literacy support, leadership development, community organizing, and systems change to strengthen families and create more equitable educational opportunities for children across Minnesota.

Whether a parent needs help navigating an immediate challenge at school or wants to become part of a larger movement for change, we meet families where they are and help them move from information to empowerment to action.

Through our programs and advocacy, we:

Support Families. We provide personalized advocacy for families navigating special education, discipline, literacy concerns, bullying, enrollment, school climate, and other educational challenges.

Build Strong Readers. Through Read to Lead, we equip families with knowledge about literacy development, the Science of Reading, reading intervention, and ways to support children at home and advocate for effective instruction at school.

Protect Educational Rights. Through Know Your Ed Rights, parents and young people learn their rights and gain practical tools for navigating school systems with confidence.

Develop Parent Leaders. We create opportunities for parents to strengthen their advocacy, leadership, organizing, and decision-making skills so they can lead change in their schools and communities.

Organize Communities. We bring families together around shared concerns, build collective power, and create spaces where lived experience becomes a catalyst for action.

Change Systems. We work with families, community partners, policymakers, and education leaders to advance policies and practices that promote literacy, racial equity, educational justice, accountability, and meaningful family voice.

From One Family to Systemwide Change

Sometimes change begins with helping one parent prepare for a school meeting.

Sometimes it begins with teaching a room full of families about literacy.

And sometimes it means organizing hundreds of people to demand something better.

We do all three.

Because when families have information, support, and collective power, they don't just navigate systems.

They change them.

Where Parent Power meets Systems Change

1. LISTEN

Families Know What They Need

We start with parents. Their experiences, concerns, ideas, and hopes help identify what is working, what is failing, and what needs to change.

2. BUILD POWER

From Voice to Leadership

We equip parents with knowledge, advocacy tools, relationships, and leadership skills so they can move from being heard to having real influence.

3. ORGANIZE

Individual Stories Become Collective Action

We bring families together around shared experiences and priorities, building community power to advocate for solutions that reach beyond one child or one school.

4. CHANGE SYSTEMS

Turn Parent Power Into Lasting Change

We take what families identify and push for changes in policies, practices, funding, accountability, and decision-making so improvements last beyond a single moment.
